Pennsylvania Car Accidents
Motor vehicle accidents are a difficult experience for anyone unlucky enough to be involved in one. Sometimes a car wreck is simply unavoidable, however, in other circumstances, the carelessness or negligence of other drivers results in serious accidents and injuries.
Fortunately, most car wrecks are not deadly. In 2016, Pennsylvania saw 1,188 fatal vehicle accidents, which is the lowest number recorded since 1950. However, some auto accidents do result in some kind of injury. Even though the number of crashes that resulted in fatalities declined by 1% in 2016, the number of wrecks increased by almost 2% throughout 2015, while the number of injuries caused by motor vehicle collisions increased by 1.2%.
The total number of injuries resulting from auto accidents has remained consistent in Pennsylvania according to the five-year trends. They have ranged from a high of 86,846 in 2012 to a low of 79,758 in 2014.
Some type of driver error is usually a contributing factor in most motor vehicle accidents. In fact, speeding and alcohol are major factors associated with causing fatal collisions. Fatal car wrecks may also prompt a wrongful death lawsuit against a negligent party.
Five-year trends that have also remained consistent in auto accidents caused by driver errors include:
- Overall carelessness
No matter what the circumstances of your car crash were, it is important for you to understand your legal rights so you can get the justice you are entitled to.
