Pittsburgh, PA – Head-On Crash on I-79 Involving Police Officer Injures 2

Pittsburgh, PA (April 6, 2022) – A head-on crash on a Pittsburgh interstate seriously injured a police officer and another driver. The officer was driving one of the cars in the wreck, while the other driver was a 68-year-old woman from Erie. 

Both suffered significant injuries, according to reports. Police reconstructed the crash on Interstate 79 in Butler County on Tuesday, April 5. The official cause of the accident is currently unknown. 

The New Sewickley police officer was headed south on I-79 when he drove into a median and then into the northbound lane and struck another driver head-on. Crews found the officer’s SUV in the passing lane of the interstate. The other vehicle involved, a white SUV, was found destroyed, upside down in the median at the scene. 

Paramedics rushed the police officer by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital.
Firefighters had to cut the female driver out of the white SUV at the crash scene. Paramedics then flew her to a hospital with severe injuries. 

Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
